False Spirea

Astilbe chinensis ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ – Very Hardy

Sturdy silver-white flowers above dark green foliage in July – August.  This tough species is more sun and drought tolerant than other astilbes.  Partial shade in rich moist soil.

Baptisia x varicolour ‘Twilite Prairieblues’ – Hardy

Deep chocolaty-purple flowers with a lemon-yellow keel, fading to violet-purple.  Very floriferous, long blooming, robust plants with foliage that stays clean all season.  Full sun.

Brunnera macrophylla ‘Mr. Morse’ – Very Hardy

Similar to B. ‘Jack Frost’ in habit and appearance with its large silver leaves and green veins.  However, B. ‘Mr. Morse’ has large white flowers instead of blue.  Prefers light shade and fertile moist soil.

A profusion of brilliant fuchsia-purple flowers are produced atop mid-sized, upright plants.  Blooms mid to late summer.  This selection demonstrates excellent mildew resistance.  Plant in rich moist soil.  Full sun to part shade.

Mukdenia rossii  ‘Karasuba’ – Hardy

Unique perennial for partial shade.  Green fan shaped leaves are topped by delicate starry white flowers in spring.  As leaves age, deep red tones creep inward from the edges.  Fire red fall colour.  Prefers partial shade in moist well drained soil.

Veronica – Fairytale

Veronica ‘Fairytale’

Lovely delicate silver-pink flowers with prominent rosy-pink stamens and silver=green foliage.  Blooms July to August.  Plant in well drained soil and full sun.  Deadheading spent flowers will encourage a faster re-bloom.  Use in flower borders or containers, this plant adds a gentle touch of colour to the garden.

 

HOSTAS

 

Teaspoon

Medium green, moderately corrugated, cupped roundish blade. Pale lavender flowers on 50cm scapes in July. Medium to fast growth rate. Excellent choice as a low groundcover.

 

Fire Island

Brilliant yellow leaves with rippled margins emerge on red petioles in spring. Red extends from petiole base up into the leaves. Foliage darkens to chartreuse in summer. Lavender flowers in mid summer. Vigorous. Best in full shade.

Orange Marmalade

Leaves have a blue-green margin, center bright gold as it emerges from soil, becoming lighter during the season with bright light. Pale lavender flowers on 95cm scapes from mid July into early August. Medium growth rate. Outstanding sport of 'Paul's Glory' as it improves with the bright gold center as it emerges from soil in spring

Creamy yellow to white, dark green margin ovate corrugated leaves. The dark green margin sometimes streaks into the leaf. Purple flowers in mid July into August. Light to partial to full shade. Medium growth rate.

 

Peppermint Ice

Dark green margin bordering a creamy yellow to white center. Purple flowers from late July into August. Medium growth rate. Always gains attention in any hosta collection, vivid contrast between the leaf center and margin.

 

Robin Hood

Medium green center with a dark green margin. Thick substance and heavily corrugated. Near-white flowers from late June into July. Slow growth rate. Noted for its combination of light and dark green foliage colours and thick substance.

 

X-rated

Leaves have a white center with a heavily rippled green margin. Average substance. Bright purple flowers in August on 50cm scapes. Medium growth rate. The leaf center is white for the whole growing season.
